The third annual Global Peace Workshop will explore the role of young people promoting peace through global citizenship and social justice, and the opportunities for youth to become involved in shaping their societies.
Organised by the Centre for Trust, Peace and Social Relations at Coventry University in the UK and Mugla Sitki Kocman Universitiesi in Turkey, the workshop brings together practitioners, academics and students of peace and conflict from institutions worldwide.
If you have a strong background in social activism or engagement in public life, for instance through volunteering or being a member of a movement, and especially if you have experience working in a conflict-affected society or working with youth, then this workshop is for you.
GPW2015 is a peace promoting workshop that aims to bring academics, practitioners, and young people together to explore different themes of peacebuilding each year. This year’s four themes are:
- Citizen 2.0 Are a new generation of ‘digital natives’ talking peace to power in a conflicted world?
- The INTERNationals- valuing young people’s unpaid contributions to building a more peaceful world
- Justice after conflict- to forgive and forget, or remember and change?
- Going Global
The GPW2015 will run from 29 June- 3 July 2015.
The workshop is open to anyone who has some experience and a demonstrable interest in the field of peace and conflict, ideally with special reference to young people. Experience can be academic, work-based or voluntary.
Participants do not require any advanced academic prerequisites beyond proficiency in English and a broad overview of current issues in peace and conflict. The most important skill is demonstrated practice and understanding. All of the documentation you supply will be taken into account but the greatest weight will be given to your experience, reasons for applying and suggestions for how you will implement the learning.
The participation fee will cover the costs of meals and accommodation. There are also limited travel bursaries available. All applicants who would like to be considered for travel grants should indicate so in their application form. The travel grant will be worth up to £150 per person and available for 20 people in total. Successful applicants will be notified in May and reimbursed during the workshop upon submitting their travel receipts.
