Description

IIMUN (ITU International Model United Nations) is a conference organized by ITU GVO Ekrem Elginkan High School MUN Club students. Model United Nations (MUN) is an academic simulation of the United Nations that aims to educate participants about current events, topics in international relations, diplomacy and the United Nations agenda. The first edition of IIMUN was organized in 2012. Every year in May, IIMUN takes place at SDKM (Süleyman Demirel Cultural Center) which is located on ITU Ayazaga Campus.  The conference hosts approximately 400 delegates coming from all around the world and from different cities of Turkey. 5th annual session of the ITU International Model United Nations conference will be held from May 14th to May 16th, 2016. This year’s conference theme is “Vision with Action”.

Disarmament and International Security Committee – DISEC (GA 1) 
1) Combatting the threat of transnational organized crime to international security
2) Discussing the responsibility of governments to protect civilians against excessive force and weapon usage in conflict areas ​
3) Mitigation of military expenditure without affecting the military balance to the detriment of the national security of any country

Economic and Financial Committee – ECOFIN (GA 2) 
1) Maladministration of tax revenue by government officials for illegal purposes
2) Reviewing the deception of public by expedient companies’ misleading advertisement policy
3) Addressing the intriguing feature of online corporate and user terms & conditions agreements on account of profit-seeking firms

Human Rights Council – HR (GA 4) 
1) Refugee crisis in Greece
2) Discussing the ethical aspect of the donation of embryos to be utilized for embryonic stem cell research
3) Protecting individuals’ right of privacy in digital era

Legal Committee (GA 6) 
1) Addressing the question of diplomatic immunity of UN officials and experts breaking local laws on mission
2) Reviewing the legal status of pharmaceutical patents with respect to Intellectual Property Rights
3) Strengthening and enforcing the Convention for the Protection of Cultural Property in the event of armed conflict
